Q. What apartment types are available?

Skyler Commons has 80 Studio apartments.

Q. What is the square footage of each unit?

Each Studio is 400 square feet.

Q. What are the lease terms?

Skyler Commons offers a 12 month lease.

Q. What is the rent at Skyler Commons?

Floors 1, 2, 3: $1350/month
4th floor and end units: $1400/month

Q. Is a security deposit required?

Yes, a $750 deposit is required and will cover any damages to your apartment. This deposit will be returned with an itemized receipt of any deductions 21 days after the end of your lease agreement; the security deposit cannot be used in lieu of rent.

Q. What does all-inclusive mean?

Each apartment is fully furnished with a loveseat, flat screen television, a full kitchen with stove, microwave, and refrigerator. Each bedroom is fully furnished with a queen-sized bed, dresser, desk and desk chair. All utilities: heat, central air, electricity, basic cable, high-speed internet, trash pick-up, and water are included in the rent price. You will also have full access to the fitness center, game room, aerobics studio, and basketball and volleyball courts at Copper Beech Commons. In addition, there is a weekly shuttle to Wegmans and Target.

Q. Is there laundry facilities at Skyler Commons?

There is coin-op laundry available on floors 2, 3 and 4.

Q. Who can live at Skyler Commons?

Anyone, however, Skyler Commons is designed with student’s’ needs in mind. We welcome students from Syracuse University, SUNY-ESF, LeMoyne, SUNY Upstate, Onondaga Community College, Onondaga School of Massage and students in Syracuse on exchange or from other area schools.

Q. Where is Skyler Commons located?

Skyler Commons is located at 908 Harrison Street, at the corner of University Avenue. Skyler Commons is located just a half block from the Whitman School of Management, 2 blocks from the Schine Student Center, and 3 blocks to Upstate Medical University.

Q. Where is the Leasing Office located?

The Leasing Office is located at Copper Beech Commons at 300 University Avenue, Building A. Please park in Guest Parking if visiting the office.

Q. Is parking available?

Parking passes for the year are available on a first come, first served basis and are $100/month. Residents must register their vehicle with the property management office and display the appropriate Skyler Commons’ Permit.

Q. Is Skyler Commons accepting applications? What is the availability?

Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Contact the leasing office for availability. Applications can be completed online at http://housingsu.com. There is a $100 application fee.

Q. Do I need a guarantor/co-signer?

Yes, a guarantor (parent or sponsor) is required for all leases and must be approved by the property manager. If a tenant is unable to attain a guarantor (i.e. International Students, non-traditional students), payment of the last 2-month’s rent is due upon move-in.

Q. Can I use my financial aid?

In almost all cases this is possible, student loans, grants, etc. are distributed to the University and the remaining amount after tuition is refunded to the student for their housing allowance; it is the student’s responsibility to pay Skyler Commons with the financial aid funds, it is not a direct payment.

Q. Will you send me a bill each month?

All payments will occur online and dependent on your payment plan you will be responsible for paying your rent as outlined in your lease. Invoices are always available online for your review. Monthly payments are due the first day of each month and semester payments are due September 15 and February 1. Tenants can pay via cash, check or credit. There is a 2% convenience fee for credit card payments.

Q. Is Skyler Commons on-campus housing?

No. Skyler Commons is privately owned and managed; however, it is designed for student living.

Q. Is subleasing allowed?

Subleasing is not permitted without the property manager’s written consent. Sub-tenants must meet eligibility and financial requirements. There is a $250 fee for subletting.

Q. Are the apartments handicapped accessible?

All apartments are ADA friendly, please contact the management office for specific ADA needs and accommodations will be made where possible.

Q. What sizes are the beds?

Each bed is queen-sized.

Q. Is there lighting in the studio?

Each studio has several ceiling lights operated on a switch.

Q. Is garbage pick-up included?

Yes. Recycling and trash dumpsters are located centrally in the parking lot.

Q. Will there be card access to my building?

There will be key fob access to the building and apartment.

Q. Are pets allowed?

Pets are not permitted in or about the complex except for animals assisting disabled or handicapped individuals. The only exception is fish in an unheated bowl containing less than five gallons of water.
